    INTRO :

We have noticed that posts are being widely shared on social media claiming that solar panels can be installed for free and earn 80,000 per month. Therefore, Fact Crescendo investigated to find out the truth about this information.

    What is the Claim:

    Facebook Link | Archived Link

In that viral social media posts says: “Do you want to install a solar panel without spending even a single rupee and earn Rs. 80,000 per month? You won’t need to spend a single rupee from your pocket. We will install it completely free of charge. Your only responsibility will be to protect the solar panel we install on your roof.”

The posts also say: “Visit the Solar Power website today to get more information:

    https://solarpowerhart.blogspot.com

The posts claim: “Look everyone, we will install it soon for those who share this post! The post was uploaded on December 17, 2025.”

Many people who did not know the truth about this information shared and commented on these posts on social media.

    Fact Check:

Many of our readers asked us to check if this information is true. So, we decided to investigate this claim.

Checking the Post Shared Facebook Account

When we checked the Facebook account that shared this post, we found it was created under the name “Gayantha Herath.” This account had no other posts except this one post about solar panels.

    Checking the Website

When we clicked the link provided in the post, we discovered something important. The website was not an official government website. Instead, the creation of a free blog page was done using a free service provided by Google’s Blogger platform (blogspot).

When we went to the contact section of the website and clicked on it, it took us to what appeared to be a gambling website. We also noticed that the company name mentioned was “Ceylon Metro Engineering.”

    Checking about the Company

We then researched the real company called Ceylon Metro Engineering. We found that there is an official, registered solar panel company in Sri Lanka with this name. You can visit their official website at: https://metroeng.lk/home/

However, when we checked their official website, there was NO mention of:

    • Free solar panel installations, or
    • Earning 80,000 per month

Instead, their official website clearly explains the legitimate services they offer and how customers can save money through solar systems.

    Checking Their Facebook Page

When we visited Ceylon Metro Engineering’s official Facebook page, we found very important information. They had posted warnings about this exact scam back in November of the previous year. They warned people not to believe fake posts using their company name and told people not to be tricked by such false information.

    Contacting the Company Directly

We contacted Ceylon Metro Engineering directly to clarify this situation. They confirmed that:

    • The website mentioned in the scam post is a fake website using their company name
    • They have never made any such announcements about free installations
    • They warned people not to trust these fake websites or call numbers connected to them

    Cybersecurity Warning from Sri Lanka

We also checked with the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) about this scam. They confirmed that:

    • This is definitely a scam
    • These suspicious links can be used to steal people’s personal information
    • People should be very careful about clicking on unknown links like this

    Understanding Phishing Scams

    What is Phishing?

Phishing is an attempt to steal someone’s personal information. It uses fake emails, messages, advertisements, or fake website links that look like the real ones you use. For example, a phishing email might look like it came from your bank and ask you for personal banking information.

    What can phishing messages do?

    Phishing messages can:

    • Ask for your personal or financial information
    • Ask you to click on links or download software
    • Look like they came from trusted companies like Facebook, your bank, or your workplace
    • Look like they came from family, friends, or colleagues you know
    • Look exactly like real messages from companies or people you trust
