France has been on the boil for weeks. It started in mid-September, when high school students blockaded their own schools over crumbling buildings and missing teachers, and it soon grew into a wider fight over the cost of living. By 24 October, the Interior Ministry was counting 410,000 protesters across the country, facing more than 70,000 police officers and gendarmes, as reported here.

Right in the middle of all this, a strange video began doing the rounds on Facebook, X and TikTok, in Sinhala, English and Tamil. It claimed French police had sent out pigs, strapped into “POLICE” harnesses, to face the crowds. So, is it real? We traced where the clip came from, checked whether any such unit exists, and asked the obvious question: why pigs?

    Social Media Posts :

The clip runs for about 10 seconds. CRS riot police lead pigs on leashes in front of a crowd waving Palestinian flags, and the captions sell it as France’s newest police tactic.

In Sinhala, a reel posted on 25 October mocked France over Palestine in crude language and said French police “had to form a pig squad” to stop the protests (අන්තිමෙ උද්ගෝශන නවත්වන්න ප්‍රංශයෙ පොලිසියට “පිග්” ස්කොඩ් එකක් හදන්න උනා කියහන්කො). In English, one of the most widely shared Facebook copies was a reaction reel captioned “French police are ready for the ‘protest’ in ‘Paris’… I had heard of the dog squad, but I’m seeing the ‘pig squad’ for the first time!” It was shared about 3,800 times. In Tamil, a reel posted on 24 October went further, saying French police had “fielded real pigs to contain the human pigs in the riots“, a jab aimed at “those who do not eat pork“.

Another Sinhala reel turned it into a warning: “something that happened to France… this will happen to Sri Lanka too… they had to set aside the army and missiles and build a pig army“. Earlier English and Hindi copies carried the line “DOG SQUAD suna tha… PIG SQUAD pehli baar!” (we’d heard of a dog squad, but a pig squad is a first).

    Facebook 4 | Facebook 5

And it did not stop at Facebook. On X, a Hindi post from 23 October with the same “dog squad, pig squad” caption pulled in about 660,000 views and 9,800 reposts. On TikTok, a French-language account dressed up as a news page presented it as fact: “Pigs wearing Police harnesses appear in front of the CRS, in the middle of a pro-Palestinian rally.”

    Claim under test :

French police deployed a unit of pigs (a “pig squad”) to control protesters in Paris in October 2026.

The Clip Was First Posted by an AI Content Creator, Labelled as AI

So where did it start? A keyframe search took us to the Instagram account jaranor.films. It posted the very same clip on 22 October 2026, more than a day before the earliest copies we found on Facebook, X or TikTok. The Spanish caption reads “Nuevas unidades de la policía francesa antidisturbio” (New units of the French riot police). And here’s the giveaway: Instagram itself tags the post as “AI content”. It had been reposted about 3,500 times.

    Instagram original

The account calls itself a “Productor Audiovisual & IA” (audiovisual and AI producer) and has around 173,000 followers. On 23 October, it posted a second, wider pig clip on TikTok, this time with a “Bastille → Opéra” banner and the Eiffel Tower standing behind the police line. That one is marked “Contains AI-generated media”, and it was shared about 15,500 times.

We then put the viral Facebook copy side by side with the Instagram original at the same moment (0:01). It’s a perfect match: the same officers, the same two pigs, the same lettering on the harness. All the viral version adds is a headline and captions.

AI Detection Tools Point to a Generated Video

To be thorough, we ran the clip through three AI-generated media identification tools. One gave it a synthetic score of 96.5%. Another rated it 99% AI-generated. The third found AI signatures in the file showing it was made with generative AI on 18 October 2026, three days before it was posted.

    The Video Contradicts Itself

Look closely and the video gives itself away. One pig’s harness reads “POLICE K9”. K9 is the common shorthand for “canine”, the label used for police dog units. In other words, the clip has slapped a dog-unit tag on a pig. The shop signs and protest placards in the background are blurred or garbled too, a classic sign of AI video.

You can catch fakes like this yourself. Read the text on signs and uniforms. Watch the hands, leashes, and feet. Check who is facing whom. And before you share, search for the first upload.

French Police Use Dogs, Not Pigs

The French National Police says it has 171 canine brigades and 472 dogs. They are used for searches (people, weapons, drugs, explosives) and to back up officers during operations, and dogs have served in its ranks since 1845. Pigs? Not a single mention on its page, as stated here.

We also searched news reports in English, French, and Spanish. Not one showed French police, or any other force, using pigs against protesters.

Why Pigs? The Clip Plays on an Anti-Muslim Trope

So why pigs, of all animals? Many captions frame the protesters as Muslim migrants and the pigs as a deterrent, because Islam forbids pork, as stated in the Quran here. Assamese-language posts said the “pig squad” had been readied because “Muslim migrants” would be protesting in Paris that day.

This isn’t the first time pig imagery has been used to stir up trouble in France. On 9 September 2025, nine pig heads were found outside mosques in the Paris region. Prosecutors said they were left by foreign nationals who quickly left the country, with the aim of causing unrest, as reported here. Serbia later arrested 11 people it said had acted on the orders of an unnamed foreign intelligence service, as reported here.

But here’s the thing: the current protests are not a religious movement at all. High school and university students, teachers, nurses, unions, and former Yellow Vest members have taken to the streets over school conditions, inequality, and the cost of living, as reported here.

One of Many AI Fakes Around the France Protests

The pig clip is just one of many fake visuals riding on these protests. We have already checked others, including the Pink Panther arrest images and a Palestinian flag on the Eiffel Tower.

On the ground, meanwhile, things kept moving. On 26 October, the French government pledged to replace the Parcoursup university admissions platform by 2028, offer up to 4 billion euros in low-interest loans for school renovations and add 15,000 higher education places. By then, about 2,400 people had been arrested in connection with the demonstrations. More protests were called for 31 October, with union strikes set for 5 November, as reported here.

    Conclusion

The “pig squad” video is AI-generated. It first appeared on 22 October 2026 on the Instagram account of creator Jaranor Films, carrying an “AI content” label. Detection tools flag it as synthetic, and French police use dogs, not pigs. No news report shows any such unit.

The protests and the heavy police presence in France are real, and that is exactly what makes the clip convincing: it borrows real CRS uniforms and Paris street scenes. The pig angle, though, ties the protests to Muslims, which is not what this movement is about. So, the next time a clip like this lands in your feed, check the first upload before you share.
